Auction Driver - Eggleston Automotive Center

Auction Driver - EAC - Norfolk, VA - Enjoy a rewarding and challenging position with a nonprofit organization that has been helping educate, train, and provide employment opportunities for individuals with disabilities since 1955. We are currently seeking applicants for a part-time Auction Driver at our Eggleston Automotive Center who will be responsible for safely transporting vehicles to and from auto auctions, dealerships, storage lots, and customer locations. This role combines professional driving skills with basic vehicle handling, inspection, and customer service. Drivers ensure vehicles arrive on time, in good condition, and with all required documentation. Applicant must be available to work Thursday & Friday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and every other Saturday from 8:00 am to Noon.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES: 

The following duties and responsibilities represent the essential functions of this job that an individual must be able to perform with or without a reasonable accommodation: 

  • Safely operate trucks, trailers, or transporters to move vehicles between auction sites, dealerships, and client locations.
  • Load and unload vehicles using proper equipment and safety procedures.
  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of the truck and trailer.
  • Verify vehicle identification numbers (VINs), mileage, and condition before transport.
  • Maintain accurate logs, delivery paperwork, and auction documentation.
  • Follow all DOT regulations, company policies, and safety standards.
  • Communicate with dispatchers, auction staff, and customers regarding schedules and vehicle status.
  • Report mechanical issues or vehicle damage promptly.
  • Keep the truck clean, organized, and in good working condition.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION, & EXPERIENCE:

The following qualifications represent the training, education, certifications, licensures, and/or work experience required to perform the essential duties and responsibilities successfully: 

  • High School diploma or GED with accounting and customer service experience.
  • Valid CDL (Class A or B), depending on equipment used.
  • Clean driving record and strong knowledge of DOT rules.
  • Experience with vehicle transport, rollback trucks, or multi-car haulers (preferred).
  • Ability to safely load, secure, and unload vehicles.
  • Strong attention to detail when inspecting vehicles and completing paperwork.
  • Good communication and time‑management skills.
  • Ability to work in outdoor environments and handle physical tasks such as securing straps or ramps.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS & WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Physical demands: Performing the duties of this job requires near visual acuity, the ability to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and/or other sounds, and gross manipulation. Additionally, the employee: 

  • Must be free of tuberculosis in a communicable form. 
  • Must be able to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, stand, sit, drive, and walk for extended periods of time 
  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions.
