Superintendent
Reporting to the Regional Superintendent, the Superintendent will oversee the execution of private, city, town and DOT resurfacing and related projects. He or she will supervise field employees, order materials, and coordinate with customers and sales personnel to complete projects in accordance with Palmer Paving’s commitment to production, quality, and safety. This is a superintendent position in Heavy Highway Asphalt Paving industry.
1. Maintain a daily log for the job site’s operations, reporting to management as
necessary.
2. Plan, coordinate, schedule and supervise on-site operations of site crews, and
subcontractors, ensure efficient use of materials and equipment and that
performance and quality objectives are met.
3. Prepare Job Production Plans (JPPs) and maintain short term schedules.
4. Accurately track quantities of daily work and ensure productivity is in line with the way
the projects were estimated.
5. Have thorough understanding of contracts, plans and specifications.
6. Ability to identify potential problems, inaccuracies and take corrective actions as
needed.
7. Identify and implement cost saving measures.
8. Identify and assist with progression, development and training of employees.
9. Keep crews accountable for safety and production rates and quality control.
10. Must have the initiative, ability, and willingness to perform and assist with other
job positions for job completion as required.
11. Conduct documented weekly safety meetings and toolbox talks.
12. Coordinate with Job Cost accountant and Regional Superintendent on job cost related
issues.
Requirements
1. 5+ years of relevant construction experience. Superintendent experience preferred.
2. Extensive knowledge of construction operations.
3. Ability to read plans and specifications.
4. Excellent Leadership skills.
5. Strong attention to detail.
6. Excellent Communication and Collaborative Skills.
7. Ability to Multi-Task.
8. Thorough understanding of job cost.
9. Ability to make quick and thoughtful decisions in a fast-paced environment.
10. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
11. Computer skills including MS Office platform. It is expected that the Superintendent
will develop knowledge of additional software platforms.
