State Government Affairs Analyst

Preferably with prior child welfare and LGBTQI+ policy and advocacy experience the State Advocacy team at the nation’s leading organization for children’s healthcare, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), seeks a strategic thinker with superior writing skills and diligent attention-to-detail to coordinate a wide array of time-sensitive work, be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, work both independently and as part of a team, exercise good judgment, display initiative, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and contribute to fostering an inclusive culture where everyone feels valued and respected..  

The State Government Affairs Analyst will conduct state legislative and policy analysis and research on assigned portfolio issues in support of AAP chapter advocacy goals; facilitate the dissemination of information to AAP chapters, committees, sections, councils, task forces, and membership, and provide strategic consultation to these groups for use in their state advocacy activities; develop, maintain, and disseminate advocacy resources and products; develop and strengthen relationships with coalitions and external stakeholders related to issues in assigned portfolio and as needed to support AAP advocacy priorities; coordinate and organize efforts to develop and support chapter outreach and relationship building with key members of their Congressional delegation; and provide support for the planning and execution of the annual Advocacy Conference.

Qualified candidates will possess:

Bachelor’s degree in political science, public policy, public health, or related discipline or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience required. Master’s degree preferred.

At least three years’ experience in state government/legislative advocacy or relevant association work, including some experience tracking state legislation and researching and analyzing state advocacy and public policy issues. 

Excellent organizational, interpersonal, critical thinking, negotiation, prioritization, and verbal/written communication skills required. 

Absolute factual reporting is essential, as well as expertise in related legislative and regulatory processes. 

Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams) preferred. 

Some travel and evening/weekend work is required.

A reasonable estimate of the current base pay range for this position is $90,207.61 - $95,219.28. Compensation decisions take into account a wide range of factors, including but not limited to relevant experience, skills, certifications, geographic location, business needs, and organizational policies. In addition to those factors, we believe in the importance of pay equity and consider internal equity of our current team members as a part of any final offer.
