Resource Recovery Division College Aide
The New York City Department of Sanitation (DSNY) keeps New York City healthy, safe, and clean by collecting, recycling, and disposing of waste, cleaning City streets and vacant lots, and clearing snow and ice. DSNY is the nation's largest municipal sanitation agency, with nearly 10,000 employees, 59 district garages, and a fleet of more than 5,000 trucks, cars, and other types of equipment. The Department clears litter, snow, and ice from approximately 6,500 miles of City streets and removes debris from vacant lots as well as abandoned vehicles from City streets. Under Local Law 199 of 2019, the Department of Sanitation is required to implement a program known as Commercial Waste Zones (CWZ), which transfers the regulation of private waste haulers to the Department of Sanitation.The Bureau of Solid Waste Managements Resource Recovery Division is seeking College Aide(s) to support The Electronics and Textile Recycling Unit and Organics Recovery Unit. The responsibilities will include but are not limited to:- Assist with administrative tasks and public correspondence related to DSNYs waste diversion programs.- Provide clerical and administrative support to staff, including filing and document management.- Assist with data entry, filing and data management.- Respond to phone and email inquiries professionally.- Support outreach, special projects and research tasks as assigned.- Schedule meetings and maintain calendars.- Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.- Occasional work in the field at DSNY or partner locations within the five boroughs may be required.
Requirements
For Assignment Level I: Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school. For Assignment Level II (Information Technology): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or closely related field, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow): Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology, computer science, management information systems, data processing, or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned, including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications. SPECIAL NOTE Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than half-time in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed full-time during their vacation periods.
