Medical Technician
About the Position: This position is located at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
- Perform a wide variety of diagnostic tests, macroscopic, and microscopic examinations of cultures of numerous species of bacteria for the purpose of position identification.
- Calibrate various analyzers as required and runs quality control samples on all instruments, making adjustments as necessary.
- Ensure detected testing errors are resolved and specimens are retested before results are reported.
- Assess the need for specific and general testing materials essential for sample testing and recommends sources for purchase of supplies.
- Transcribe completed laboratory reports received from reference laboratories into hospital-wide computer system.

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing laboratory tests and examiniations (chemical, microbiologic, hematologic and blood banking) and utilizing automated systems to maintain data. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as chemistry, biology, or medical laboratory science. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. AND Certification: This position has a selective placement factor which must be met prior to employment and for continued employment. Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) is required.
