Medical Secretary


This temporary medical secretary role offers the perfect opportunity to build your healthcare administration career while directly supporting New York State's workforce health and compliance operations. Who You Will Be Working With 
You will be working with the central agency responsible for managing the civil service system, human resources, and workforce health programs for New York State. This specific team handles the critical medical evaluations, pre-employment physicals, and employee health screenings required to keep the state’s public workforce safe and operational. You will join a supportive, collaborative unit of seven staff members who are currently transitioning operations from a traditional paper environment into a modern electronic medical records system.

Major Duties
  • Greet visitors, answer incoming phone calls, take accurate messages, and route callers to the appropriate team members.
  • Manage, schedule, and organize patient appointments utilizing electronic filing and scheduling systems.
  • Handle incoming mail, route materials, complete internal agency forms, and attach files to corresponding paperwork.
  • Utilize office software to manage emails, update spreadsheets, input data, and complete basic word processing tasks.
  • Operate and maintain general office equipment such as printers, copiers, and scanners, coordinating repairs when necessary.
  • Assist the clerical supervisors with additional administrative tasks and data entry projects during the EMR system transition.
 
What We Are Looking For
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills paired with excellent time management.
  • High attention to detail and the proven ability to handle confidential, sensitive information securely.
  • Familiarity with basic medical terminology and standard hospital, clinic, or laboratory administrative procedures.
  • Ability to complete the required state agency background verification paperwork upon selection.
 
Exciting Opportunity Details
  • Compensation: $25.00 per hour 
  • Length of engagement: 6 months with potential renewal up to 1 year 
  • Days/Hours: Monday – Friday / Full-Time 
  • Location: Cohoes, NY (Free on-site parking provided)
