Floor Layers install all flooring materials, including carpet, laminate vinyl, wood, tiles, and sports surfaces. Work is often done based on the specifications of architects and other interior designers. Floor Layers are good at estimating materials and understanding pattern layouts. They also know how to safely and properly use many tools, adhesives, and fastening systems.
Most of our work is done indoors, except for installing materials made for outdoor and sports venues. It is a physical job. Lifting, pushing, pulling, kneeling, and bending at the waist are common. You will be trained to do these tasks safely before doing them on a job site. Hard hats, safety glasses, durable clothing, and safety shoes are the typical items worn on a job site. Your day will begin in the morning and usually starts at 7 a.m. This is typically an 8-hour day, but at times, your contractor can offer longer hours, which pays more. If a project is fast-tracked, alternate shifts are needed to get the job done. Sometimes, your job will require you to work at night so the business can operate during the day. Which also pays more.
